Run the Race to Win the Prize

Uncategorized

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us…”  Hebrews 12:1

HAPPY 2017

Are you making resolutions to change old habits this year? Have you thought about your hopes for the year ahead?  What will influence how you approach 2017?

After listening to a webinar by Chris Brogan, an online marketing guru and past speaker at a Cleary University Luncheon, I have been thinking about what words will influence me in 2017. His approach is to select three words to focus on daily that influence choices and your approach to life. In mid-December, I chose my three words and contemplated following his approach. He has been doing this for eleven years. He believes firmly that his choice of words affected the year in all areas of his life. More action words made for a more successful year.

RUN THE RACE TO WIN THE PRIZE

Modifying Chris Brogan’s approach, I have decided on the phrase above as mine for 2017!  It has many applications in my life. First, it is very easy for me to remember! Very important! It also has reminders of Biblical applications and scripture that is important to me. It has action words and creates a visual that is inspiring.

On a recruiting trip for my twin daughters to swim at Hillsdale College, we met with the swim coach. Something he said has stuck with me for many years. When swimming in a race, stay focused on what you are doing in your lane. Don’t be distracted by the other swimmers. Swim your race. (Although being sprinters, there wasn’t much time to think about anything!)

I swam when I was very young. And my memory of that was to focus on winning the race with flailing arms and all. It had everything to do with the other swimmers. And little to do with understanding one’s strengths.

THAT’S NOT MY RACE AND THAT’S NOT MY PRIZE!

We are all responsible for the choices we make. And in 2017, I want to be selective in where I put my time and with whom. This is a way to for me to visualize simplicity. Busy distracts us from what is most important. What is important to me is to empower and encourage others in daily life and in my business. That is why I love being a mom of four children. And that is why I have enjoyed working with hundreds of small business clients over many years. Don’t want to miss what is most important in life.

Best wishes for a wonderful 2017! May you spend time on what is most important to you.
